Yesterday I stumbled upon an Instagram live feed with Reese Witherspoon and Eve Rodsky. They were discussing Eve’s new book Find Your Unicorn Space. The conversation they were having felt like the conversation I’ve been having with myself over the last year. What and where do I find my joy? I’ve been trying different things to see where I am most myself. The book Unicorn Space is about finding out and exploring your curiosities. This could not have been more apt. I’ve tried knitting, creating my own Etsy shop, buying books, working out more, you name it, I’ve tried it. I’ve been overwhelmed with my job, my life, and then somehow, I find myself bored at the end of each day. How is this possible? Reese and Eve put words to those feelings I’ve been having. It was like a spark. I’d started this blog the day before, and maybe, just maybe, it was meant to be.
So, my unicorn space, for now, is this blog. I will endeavor to write, explore, and share my interests here. Not for others to see, but for me. A space that fuels my curiosity about the world and expresses my deep desire to fulfill my life.
I haven’t read the book yet, but it’s definitely on my reading list for my upcoming cruise. My reading list also includes The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi, and Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. Two of these authors I’ve already read and loved. I read All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. If you are interested in historical fiction and perseverance, this book is for you. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles was a book club book, and I would not have picked it up myself but felt that after I put it down, I was completely satisfied by the author’s vision for the book.
My goal for 2022 was to read 50 books. I’ve read 8, so you can see how that’s going. I’ve upped it to 100. My travel, my love of saving money and my reading lists will be featured throughout this blog. For now, these are my unicorn space. They may change and evolve as I grow and find my curiosities. So, thank you, Reese and Eve, for bringing Find Your Unicorn Space into my life.
